Transform Your Smile While Keeping Your Natural Teeth!

Porcelain Veneers Vancouver

Although there are many ways to give a cosmetic makeover to your teeth, no option is as transformative as porcelain veneers. Veneers are tiny shields that connect to the front of your real teeth to give your teeth a more pleasing appearance.

You may use a single veneer to cover an imperfect tooth or get many veneers to cover an entire row of teeth. As an expert cosmetic dentist, Dr. Julie Jang helps patients to choose the exact tooth size, shape, and shade that they have always wanted to create their ideal smile.

The Beautiful Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Dr. Julie recommends veneers in many situations, including:

  • Brightening teeth that are yellow or not as white as you would wish
  • Covering a slightly crooked or misshapen tooth that looks different from your neighboring teeth
  • Lengthening teeth that you believe to be too short
  • Concealing gaps or irregular spacing between your teeth
  • Hiding cracked or chipped teeth

What veneers cannot do is correct issues pertaining to the health of your teeth. Porcelain veneers are a purely cosmetic procedure, meaning that they can only improve the aesthetics of your mouth. If you have existing dental problems like cavities, Dr. Julie will encourage you to take care of these problems before getting veneers.

How Do Veneers Work?

Dr. Julie begins by numbing your mouth and then delicately scraping roughly half a millimeter of enamel from the front of every tooth that will be receiving a veneer. She does this to ensure that you have enough space in your mouth to fit the veneers.

After preparing your teeth, Dr Julie takes a digital scan of your teeth so that a laboratory can custom create veneers for your mouth. This precision is important so that the veneers fit over your existing teeth and do not disrupt the motion of your bite.

At a subsequent appointment, Dr. Julie uses a special cement to attach the veneers to your teeth. She can still move the veneers at this point to get the perfect position. She then shines a light to harden the cement mixture so that the veneers remain on your teeth indefinitely.

Recovery and Results

You may experience mild discomfort and tooth sensitivity in the first couple weeks as your mouth adjusts to having its new shields. To avoid unnecessary discomfort, use a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth and avoid consuming overly hot or cold foods and beverages.

Veneers are very durable. On average, porcelain veneers last 10 to 15 years before they require replacement. (Veneers do need to be replaced since the front of your teeth have been altered.) However, you can maintain them for much longer by taking great care of your teeth. This includes not chewing on hard objects that can crack your veneers (fingernails, pens, etc.) and not drinking too much wine, cola, or coffee since these may gradually stain your veneers. The good news is that veneers are less susceptible to staining than your natural teeth!

You must also continue to brush and floss your teeth regularly to avoid dental problems. While veneers cover the front of your teeth, they do not protect your teeth from bacteria, plaque, or cavities.
